I've been following and posting about the Steemit Alexa rankings almost since I joined up. I find it interesting to see how the site is doing. For a long time it was US, Korea, UK at the top, but others have overtaken the UK.
The overall rank has dropped from under 1000 to about 1700 since the end of March. I've seen Ned talking about Steemit as a top 1000 site on his recent tour, but that's no longer accurate.
I don't have all the historical data to hand, but I know the US was accounting for over 30% of users earlier this year. I think it's good that it's spread more around the world now. China is a fast growing area, but I worry that they could decide to block it at any time.
If Steemit does take off in places like China and India then that's hundreds of millions of potential users. That may bring a flood of low quality content, but it could change lives there. We have to find ways to cope with the issues.
I really hope to see the rank start to improve again soon. Hardfork 20 is coming in the next few months and that may be the driver for it if millions can quickly sign up.
I put out a notice on Twitter and Google+ saying I'd pay for accounts for good people, but nobody has taken that up yet. I think top content is key to making Steemit a success.
