It looks like some Youtubers are migrating to Dtube lately. The reasons for this are to get better rewards and also to avoid censorship. The Merkle has an article. The people they featured say they can make far more with a fraction of the subscribers.
The article expresses some concerns about the types of content that may move to the decentralised option and also that the voting is often not based on quality. Those also worry me, but there's a lot of important content that gets censored by governments and others. Sites that show the videos could still get take-down notices depending on where they are based.
I would hope the community will act to prevent abusive and exploitative content earning rewards.
The recent shooting incident at YouTube seems to have been driven by the woman feeling she was being censored. There's no justification in trying to kill people for that, but if she had had other outlets this might have been less tragic.
