I am not a fanboy of pretty much anything though, something I do listen to consistently is the podcast of Sam Harris. After a few deep conversations, it was recommended to me by a friend who realised that Sam crosses much of the same territory as my own interest areas and since I don't read much, watch TV, game or consume mainstream media, Sam's podcast is my source of entertainment.
He is a thoughtful, intelligent, very well spoken person who has published NY Times best sellers and talked with many of the most influential people in their fields. He is a brilliant and even-tempered speaker and a gracious host to his guests. Sam Harris also has a degree in philosophy from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA.
Why am I telling you this?
He has one of the most listened to podcasts in the world with a massive following and at times runs into some topics of controversy as well as speaks with controversial identities across several domains.
He is an enthusiastic advocate of freedom of speech and is outspoken against censorship of various kinds. He doesn't have advertisers as funding due to their ability to compromise content and relies on subscriptions to fund his work. He is a liberal thinker and is concerned about the future of artificial intelligence and its impact on humanity, fake news and the role of governments in our lives. He has also expressed concerns about the ability for the large platforms to demonetize content providers that are too controversial or bad for business.
Sounds perfect for Steemit don't you think?
So I sent this note through his new website samharris.org
Now, is he likely to respond? I don't know but perhaps one of his support staff may have a look at what Steemit is about and what it could potentially provide Sam in the future. It could be that he will have a closer look at how blockchain technology can support some of his pet projects and cobat some of his concerns, especially in regards to freedom of speech, censorship and immutability of content. Let's see if anything comes of it.
A Secondary note:
Sam,
I have parked the account . If you join at Steemit, the account is of course yours and I will hand over the keys happily and delegate something to you to get you started and acquainted with the platform.
As Steemit and blockchain technologies mature, you will find that there is a lot that they will be able to offer you and your peers to support and manage a whole range of activities you are interested in.
Hopefully, you find your way here and help us develop and shape what information, economy, community and individual potential will look like in the future.
Remember though, once on the blockchain it is immutable, so choose your first words wisely as they will be remembered forever.
