Introduction
I am gradually updating the FAQ section of Steemithelp.net - I recently updated the navigation and broke it up into separate sections.
This will allow me to write more detailed information on each topic, as well as being able to update it more easily section by section.
I also think it is a lot easier to follow and find what you are looking for this way:
I have just completed some new additions which will replace the very basic information in my original version of the FAQ.
These cover verification and curation guilds. I have used a more basic question and answer style to make them quicker and easier to read - let me know if you prefer this method or not.
Also let me know if you believe I have missed something important in the following sections. Once I have completed them (with your feedback) I will put them up on the site.
Further I am looking for someone who has an example verification photo or video that they would allow me to use as an example to add to the post when it goes up.
Verification
What is it?
- A way of providing evidence that you are who you say you are.
- A means of providing evidence that you produced the content that you are posting.
How do I verify my account?
- A photo or video with you holding up a piece of paper which has your Steemit name and the date on it.
- A post on an official website, Facebook account or other online location that is already associated with your name/work you are posting which links to your Steemit account/name and would not be accessible to someone else.
- The SteemVerify service which allows greater anonymity via a 3rd party.
Why?
- To reduce the risk of people impersonating others to gain a following and earn money on Steemit.
- To reduce the risk of people falsely claiming to have produced content i.e. plagiarism etc.
- To increase trust.
Notes
- It does not guarantee that an account will act ethically.
- It is not mandatory.

Curation Guilds
What are they?
Groups that exist to look for good content that may otherwise not earn very much money or rewards and try to even the balance. The main aim is to improve the overall standard of curation and reduce the amount of high quality content that gets overlooked.
Why?
- People have limited time and attention.
- It is hard for new users to get noticed or develop a following if they are not already well known in the community.
- It is very hard to get to the trending page without high value votes and these users may have even less time to curate themselves.
- Users who put in a lot of time and effort and are neglected may become disheartened and give up - this is obviously a problem if we want to expand Steemit and attract/retain good writers.
How?
They do this using a number of methods:
- Donated SP/Steem.
- People who follow their curation trail to vote with them.
- Donated votes from high value (whale) accounts.
- Most use a combination of the above.
Some of them also post lists of content that they have curated along with regular status updates.
How do I use them?
Each group has it's own submission and posting rules which can change over time. This can include specific tags, post topics, reputation rules etc. Please read their submission rules/guidelines and be sure to follow them.
I have included the announcement threads below but it is also best to follow the associated Steemit account for the latest updates or to check/ask in the related RocketChat channel if available.

How you can help.
- Please check the points on Verification and Guilds and let me know if you see any errors.
- Are there any points or groups that I have forgotten or missed? If so please let me know.
- Let me know if you have a verification photo/video that you would be willing for me to place on the site. You will of course get credit in the post.
- Finally as always please let me know what else you would like to see on Steemithelp.net.
