I am doing a video series on how to get started on steemit. Today we talk about getting started and setting up an account.
I had made the video for my viewers on YouTube so please forgive the parts where I ask everyone to comment on my articles. Many people suggested I share this video with you all here though so here it is.
To get started on steemit you will need a valid email address and a cell phone. These are only used for setting up an account and will never again be used and will not be saved on steemit.
You will have complete anonymity if you chose. The only information displayed is what you share yourself when setting up your account.
First go to steemit.com and click on the sign up form on the top right corner of the screen.
Next you can create a user name that will be visible to everyone when you post on steemit.
You will need to enter a valid email address and a cell phone number. The cell phone is ONLY used to send you a one time text message. You enter the digits into the field. Your cell phone will not be saved and will never be needed again on steemit. (I stress this based on many concerns I have read).
Now you wait. After a short time your account will be manually approved.
Do not ever lose your password. Copy and paste it into a word file and save it to your computer and an extra storage disk outside your computer. Then print it out as well. If you lose your password, you can never recover your account.
Once your account has been activated you can set up your home page and personalize it. I wrote an article about that here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@thediyworld/using-steem-for-noobs
Write your first post, introducing yourself to the steemit community.
Find articles you like and give them a vote up. Write comments related to anything that interests you. If someone feels that you deserve it, or like your work, you will get an up vote as well.
Voting is how people gain in reputation and gain steem dollars. But I will be explaining this and commenting in more detail in the next article.
