Bermuda founded in 1505 accidentally by Juan De Bermudez, the Captain of La Garza who was Part of a Spanish fleet sailing from Cadiz to Mexico. But because it was so small, the island remained uninhabited and unsettled until 1609. A century later, In 1609, the English flagship of Admiral Sir George Somers, the Sea Venture, was wrecked on Bermuda's reefs while in route to the colony at Jamestown, Virginia. The English staked a claim to Bermuda and began colonization.
