When it comes to the Game of Thrones, I am definitely on Team Tyrion.
He’s the ultimate underdog!
And he’s also a master of social media. Or, at least he would be if it existed in his world.
Think about it.
No matter how desperate a situation gets…
He always has someone to call on.
Trial by combat? (On three separate occasions…)
No problem; he has a world-famous fighter ready to kill for him.
Headed into battle?
Don’t sweat it; he has a legion of mercenaries on his side, along with the most loyal squire in Westeros.
Need to escape a crime scene?
Dude’s got it covered; he called in a favor from his best friend, the Spider himself, Lord Varys.
Tyrion's success doesn't really make sense, does it?
He's almost universally reviled, including by his own family.
Every bounty hunter in the known world is looking for him, since he got blamed for poisoning that miserable little brat, Jeoffrey.
AND he drinks ALL the wine...
So why is Tyrion such a winner, despite his limitations?
Because he knows the MOTIVES of everyone around him.
(And how to deliver them value in exchange for what he needs.)
This is the most important skill you can possess if you want to be a success on social media. (Or in life for that matter.)
Let's be clear. I'm not talking about puppet-master manipulation, here, I'm talking about EMPATHY for other people, combined with emotional maturity, creative thought and careful planning to attain an objective.
We can use it as a force for good.
I'd love to see this social media community become a collective force in support of charity.
Anyway, take a page from Tyrion’s playbook…
Learn everything you can about the people with whom you most want to connect. Understand what they want, how you can deliver it to them, and always keep your mind open to how you can work together in the future.
That's what Tyrion would do.
(And if you keep it up, you might someday be as rich as the Lannisters.)
