Kofi Annan, the Ghanaian diplomat who served as the UN Secretary General is dead.
He died at the age of 80yrs old after a brief illness. He was survived by his wife and 3 children.
He was appointed as the 7th UN Secretary General and served as the world top diplomat from 1997-2006.
His tenure as UN Sec. Gen. coincided with the Iraq war and the HIV/AIDS pandemic
He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.
After his tenure in the United Nations, he established the Kofi Annan Foundation for International development.
News of his that has opened a floodgate of tributes with one coming in form of a statement released by the Secretary General Antonio Guterres in which he called him and I quote "a guiding force for good".
Funeral arrangements will be announced soon.

With both the deaths of Aretha Franklin and Kofi Annan, the week has truly been a sad week.
