So, I'm conceiving a platform that starts as a social media site, much like Steemit, except that it is designed to be egalitarian. It's base state will be that a rewards pool (a la Steemit) will vest (in FOG, a new cryptocurrency) accounts per curation. There will not be downvotes, as curation will follow a market model.
Disclaimer: I know this will piss you off (yeah, I mean you.) unless it doesn't. Whales are gonna kill me (or not). I don't care. The only power you have over me here is financial. I laugh at your power, because it isn't a currency I value. Man does not live on bread alone, but also on peanut butter, and jelly.
Here's where things get tricky: The platform is designed to splinter. As features and ideas are proposed and adopted, those changes take place only in the subset of accounts voluntarily adopting those changes. The rest of the platform remains as it was.
If the changes do not impact the underlying blockchain, currency, etc... and insofar as they are congruent, communication between the forks permits intercourse and commerce. When changes preclude that, intrachain cooperation become interchain mediation. When people leave, they will mostly take their FOG with them. New currencies will form. Old ones will die. Dogs will get along with cats, but some won't.
Interplatform agreements will either establish bases for intercourse, or complete divorce will occur. Good. I never liked your mother, anyway!
Eventually, such a platform based on voluntarism will resemble a fog of forms, with a core group that largely resembles the initial model, and fading to extremely different segments that interact only in limited ways, if at all.
Each account capable of selfwitnessing can splinter off from the rest in any ways it deems convenient (or just go away), and can rejoin group(s) as their protocols allow, simply by accepting their form.
Caveat Emptor: small chains are easily dominated or attacked. There is a real world value to being part of a group large enough to defend itself against sybil attacks, for example. While this limits the ability of groups to successfully form and persist, it just is.
Frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way. Shirley, you can see that? Bobviously, there are problems with this system. It'll never work.
This is merely a thought experiment. As an experiment, try to have some. Thoughts?
tl;dr just another drunk post. Imma hafta stop doing this, quit drinking, or just regret it later, as usual.
