193 countries of the UN General Assembly in 25 September 2015, adopted set of goals generally known as Sustainable Development Goals with 169 targets to be achieved by 2030.
Outlined below are the sustainable development goals;
Goal 1: No Poverty
Goal 2: Zero Hunger
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being
Goal 4: Quality Education
Goal 5: Gender Equality
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Goal 13: Climate Change
Goal 14: Life Below Water
Goal 15: Life on Land
Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals
My focus is not to explain each of the sustainable development goals but to answer the question “Does Steemit play a role in Sustainable development goals?” and to analyze my answer.

Does steemit play a role in sustainable development goals?
Yes!
Steemit plays a role in some (if not all) of the sustainable development goals.
Analysis of my answers using few of the goals;
Goal 1: No Poverty
The objective of this goal is to end poverty in all its forms everywhere. The definition of poverty is broad, but I will limit the definition to the lack of income and resources.
No doubt, Steemit has elevated many of its users from abject poverty through its steem and steem dollar blockchain reward system.
I reside at Uyo, Nigeria and the Steemit Uyo community happens to be a rapidly growing community. Through my interaction with many intelligent steemians in Uyo, I have observed many of them where not earning income prior to joining steemit. This is mainly attributed to large work force with low employment opportunities. The has subjected them to poverty and pressure from family. I will share 
Apart from Uyo, other steemians of other regions ( here ) have been elevated from poverty as a result of their value on the Steemit community been rewarded.
As a result of how steemit has elevated many form poverty, some steemians have decided to promote Steemit to help others come out of poverty.
This is truly a reflection that steemit supports Goal 1 of the sustainable development goals.
Goal 2: Zero Hunger
The objective of this goal is to end hunger. As explained with Goal 1, it can’t be argued that income is needed to achieve zero hunger. Since steemit provides earnings for steemians, then many steeminas are able to generate income to afford high quality nutritional food needed for the body and also promote sustainable agriculture.
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being
The objective of this goal is to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all. Steemit is supporting this objective in diverse measure. For example AirSteem-Clinic was been initiated by steeminas to promote good health and Well-being.
Goal 4: Quality Education
The objective of this goal is to promote long life learning opportunity for all. On steemit hundreds of quality content is updated by diverse steemians and this is providing and promoting opportunities to learn, relearn and unlearn. Also day by day, some existing knowledge is been updated and the steemit technology is a driving force in achieving that.
Goal 5: Gender Equality
In some regions of the world, a particular gender is given more priority over the other causing gender inequality. The objective of this goal is to promote equality in opportunities between all genders. This is a clear reflection in the steemit blockchain as both male and female are given equal access to use the steemit platform.
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
The objective of this goal Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation. Prior to many steemians knowing Steeemit, many innovative ideas have been dormant. It is no doubt that steemit has provided an avenue for steemians to showcase their innovative ideas which has contributed to the rapid growth of steemit.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals
The objective of this goal is to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development. Steemit has directly or indirectly strengthen the means of implementation of the sustainable development goals.
