I've spent some time discussing HF20 in Discord this morning and here are some of the thoughts I've had...
Firstly, we've all been having a collective panic attack. Yes, we had a glitchy fork which is rather unacceptable.
had a good article earlier about the sloppiness of HF20 and how they really screwed up in the implementation.
However, most of the reactions have been like this:

But do we have reason to feel that we're surviving the aftermath of an EF4 or EF5 tornado? Is that justified?
Not really. Okay, it was the longest outage in living memory (24 hours) - and the Resource Credits have been glitchy coming out of the outage, but what's the truth?
In a second article, tests the resource credit system objectively and reports his findings to us.
From what I understand, when the storm clears up, things will be back to "business as usual" and we're unlikely to see many lasting problems due to this shake-up. I am still slightly concerned that new users will have difficulty getting anywhere on the platform, but this was already a problem and something that many curation initiatives (such as ) are working hard to remedy. Maybe some more fixes will be coming, but that's going to take time to get over the hurdles presented by HF20.
Living in Wyoming, I have watched some nasty storms come through. Thankfully, we never get an EF4 here (though there were a couple of beautiful EF3s this year - and historically there was one EF4 up in Cody one year.) But the EF1s we do get tend to come from very ugly looking storms (unless you're a stormwatcher or chaser) - and are often still ugly for a long time after the storm has climaxed. Eventually, however, the storm clears and the sun comes out again.
My suspicions are that when the sun comes out after this rather nasty and bumpy storm clears, and we assess the damage, we will find something more like this:
