For me, the most important number that I wanted to increase, not the number of follower, but reputation! As account with higher reputation are perceived to have higher quality contents,many users don't even read articles posted by low reputation accounts.While some up-vote posts from high reputation accounts without even reading the content.
So by having a high reputation, you are increasing the chance of your posts being noticed more faster and more probably to get up-voted.
3. How To Increase Your Reputation?
There is no easy way to achieve success, you really have to work hard to achieve your reputation goal. How the reputation score works? It depends on the up-votes you get from your posts and comments.So these are the 2 areas where you have to put in more time in order to increase your reputation score.
In the below is my plan, not perfect , but it was the plan works well for me!

1.Post High Quality Post Only!!!
Posting High Quality Post will help you to build a great relationship with your follower and making them look forward to your next post.
2.Post at least 1 to 2 post
Don't waste time by posting many useless posts, instead of invest your time in posting in one quality post! As the saying goes"quality is better than quantity".
3. Comment on popular post
When you are commenting in popular post, remember only comment add value content! This will help you to increase your reputation, in the mean time, get more recognition and more followers.
4. Reply the comments in your post
Increase the interaction with the readers will make them more likely to follow you!
5.I will consistently apply my above 4 rule!
