In all honesty there were a few rules I followed that helped me save up enough money to reach dolphin status. I’ve been on Steemit for about a year and a half and managed to accumulate ~ 1400 sp, so there was some grind involved with building up my account, but I bought the majority of my dolphin status with cold hard cash!
I’m not wealthy and am currently in dental school where I will leave with about 300k in student loans, so I believe that if I could do it, anyone could do it. Did I successfully real you in? If so, then I hope my tip helps!
Break Habits That Cost Money
I’m a firm believer that life is simple and simple is never easy. I wanted to become a dolphin asap and didn’t have the money to invest, so I started cutting out small things in my life that was draining my wallet!
I started off slow by tallying up the amount of money I spent on a cup of coffee a week and picked two or three days where I would pocket that 2-3$ and buy some Steem.
After a few weeks I managed to save up a nice amount, which was both exciting and scary because I was finally seeing the actual amount of money I was wasting on coffee each week.
I decided to use most of the money buy a keurig to save money on coffee because i’m in dental school and basically run on the jo to survive!
I was back at zero, but it was ok because I became obsessed with analyzing where all of my money was going and figuring our ways I could cut back on the hundreds a month on eating out, ordering Ubers, and going out to bars and buying rounds!
I admit I didn’t go cold turkey and become a minimalist, but I took baby steps like periodically checking the price of uber when I wanted to get somewhere fast and told myself, “if I walk today, I’ll put the money I would’ve spent on a ride and invest it into Steem”.
I did the same thing with going out by avoiding bars with expensive covers and drinking before going out, so I didn’t waste money on expensive drinks.
After ~ month of doing this I managed to save up a few hundred dollars (yeah my spending habits were bad), which wasn’t much in the grand scheme of things, but it was a start!
Patience is KEY
Everyones different, but I hate the idea of growing something slow! When I power up I want it to be a big amount because I realized I lost motivation to save when I didn’t see the big number growing right in front of me.
My irrational thought process actually paid off because Steem was well over $1 when I was going to power up and I wouldn’t have been able to buy as much as I did if I wasn’t patient.
I wasn’t patient enough to keep grinding on Steemit everyday, so I constantly took time off to live my life, but the gaol of becoming a dolphin was always in the back of my mind!
Eventually my process for saving became habit and before I knew it I had saved enough to either go on a sick vacation, or become the newest dolphin on the block!
This process took over a year, but now that it’s over and I reached my goal I am beyond happy I made sacrifices in a few small areas in my life to make this dream come true.
Hopefully this helped motivate a few of you minnows to save and power up your sp to become a dolphin someday! I read a post similar to this one during my first few days on the platform and I never looked back since.
Until next time, this has been a message from your friendly neighborhood #spiderblogger. Should consider changing it to spider dolphin lol.
