I am a fan of the tv show Mad Men, the era gets me. Drinking etiquette and such things 😎 ok jokes aside the art, the design the culture everything changed after the second world war. Inspired by that show and some posters I stumbled upon a few days ago I wanted to show a bit of the flare from the 50s and 60s and earlier times. The only difference these were made on the other side of the globe and are the product of a communist country.
The country was Yugoslavia, especially during the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s. Some have a sentiment others hatred towards the old federation of socialist states in south-east Europe. I really don't have an opinion the question if communism is good or bad is really not the topic of this post. The posters I will show to you are great pieces of art, the ideas, the styles are fascinating. The places shown in some posters are manly in today's Croatia as it was part of the socialist federation.
The posters are not just propaganda material but have a huge artistic significance. Most of them were the creation of famous Croatian artist and designers. A lot of them have or had their material shown own exhibitions not just in our capital Zagreb but all over the world. Some of them are Edo Murtić, Andrija Maurović, Milan Vulpe, and Boris Ljubičić.
A short view of advertisement from a communist country from the golden age.
