This is my participation post for
contest!
The idea is to create unique trading cards for Steemit's greatest contributors, starting from
As soon as I read 's post I got excited! That idea never crossed my mind, but it totally makes sense. Steemit is still in the beginning, imagine how cool it would be to have some collectible cards from the early superstars. I am even thinking that the winning format could be printed in a limited amount of cards and become super collectible among steemians!
I really like to challenge myself and try new things, so even if I had no experience with graphics design I wanted to put effort and make a submission! All in all, it was a really fun experience, I burned a sufficient amount of hours but I learned a lot in the progress. I wish I had a better documentation of the process but I will try to share with you some significant details, from the moment I opened GIMP and started the experiment to the final export!
Due to lack of experience, my first thought was to design my card based on other popular trading card formats. After all, if people were buying those, they would buy mine too!😁 In search of inspiration, I saw a bunch of cards online to finally come with a format close to Yu-Gi-Oh! Cards. Nostalgia won on this one, as when I was younger Yu-Gi-Oh! was at its peak, with me watching the tv series, playing the console games and collecting the cards (I lost all of them btw).
Next on the list was the cards primary color. is all about nature so it had to be green. I searched for one of his own photographs to use as a background.
Then I watched a number of tutorials (this one is very good), played with GIMP's tools and after a lot of hours I came up with a result very different from the one you will see below. I don't have that one available at the moment but it wasn't a pretty one. I made another attempt, made the background a little darker, change A LOT of things and finally came up with the final result!
After that I had to create a backside for my trading card. My understanding is that the backside will be the same for all the cards of the collection so I designed something that shouts STEEMIT! from far far away!
Below is my full submission, front and back of the steemit trading card:
if you like this design we can discuss, make changes and come up with the final result😃.
