Simple, effective and versatile. Flashcards represent an indispensable teaching mediator in teaching foreign languages. Sometimes underestimated, they can make the difference in our didactic action. In fact, their potential is infinite. But let's go in order.

What are they?
With the term flashcards are indicated cards depicting the image of an object, a person or an action. The image can be accompanied by the corresponding word, but there are also versions with just the written word. They can be mini, large or in classic format (a quarter of an A4 sheet). We will see how to build them.
What are they for?
There is no single way to use them, it depends on the purpose of the teacher. It ranges from the presentation of a new topic to the consolidation of the known vocabulary, from the narration of a story to the learning of a nursery rhyme or a song. They can be used individually, but based on our experience their strength lies in the work in pairs or in the small group.
How do they come about?
Their construction is very simple: enough A4 sheets, a pencil, a pair of scissors and colors. The sheet can be used in full or in half in the large version, folded in 4 parts in the classic version or in 8 parts in the mini version.
What games can we do in the classroom with flashcards?
The flashcards can therefore to be used in numerous games, let's see some:
Memory game
A game in pairs in which the cards (two decks are needed) are placed on their stomachs on the table. The child who finds more pairs wins by pronouncing the words correctly. You can use image, decks - image, image - word or word - word.
Guess the word
Flashcards are hung on the board. The teacher removes one while the children do not look. Gets a point the child or team guessing first which flashcard has been removed. The number of flashcards to hang depends on the degree of difficulty you want to achieve. It is possible to remove more than one flashcard for the higher classes.
Guess in a row
Two teams stand in single file in front of the teacher. Thus, pairs of challengers are formed. The teacher shows each couple a flashcard without the word: the one who first guesses the name of the image is the winner. The card is placed at the beginning of the row and so on. The team that has won the most cards will win the race. You can also play the game in the gym, adding routes before guessing the card.
Find the flashcard
The game requires two teams to position themselves in a single file at a certain distance from the teacher, who distributes a series of flashcards on the floor. Each run requires that the teacher name a flashcard and that the first two children of each row run to her and take the corresponding card. The team that accumulates the most flashcards wins.
These are just some of the feasible games, we are constantly reminded of them. Their evident versatility therefore gives the flashcards the role of the main tool for academic and non-English teaching.
