Today I am writing about a very important subject to all parents. Some might think the children are not old enough but the younger children are better to teach about drugs and bad people. Some parents might not feel the same way. But these are only suggestions of mine and only my opinion.
I am writing on how to keep your children as safe as possible. My husband who was a teacher and headmaster for at least 38 years, believe that I am right, as when children are small we are able to teach them thing and they believe everything that you teach them. The reason why I am saying this is that he took the juniors from under the age of 9 and taught them rugby.
Now anyone with rugby knowledge will know that in those days we still had very good Springboks and they really played good rugby. He loved this as they really did what they were told, and not what they were thinking they should be doing. He even had quite a few professional players and even some springboks that started their rugby careers learning from him when they were still small. This does not apply to rugby alone.
Hockey, netball, tennis and other sport games do the same for our children. Now why did I mention this? For the simple reason that the younger they are the more they accept and this stays with them no matter how old they get.
Here is the reason that I want us to start teaching children about drugs, and people they don’t know. Please if your child has to walk home after school maybe you work, and cannot fetch your child, make sure they walk with other children in a group.
I always say you and your children should have a secret password. Why? When someone drives up to your child and says his parents need him and the child must go with them, the first thing the child will ask is what the password is.
When they don’t know, teach your child to run to the nearest grownup, maybe teacher or policeman and say please take me home my parents need me. This might just help your child out of a very bad situation.
Now for drugs, teach them never to drink a cool drink or water or anything that has not been opened in front of them. This way they can see that nothing was put into their drink that could be bad for them. My father taught me this from a very young age and I am still thankful. We do not want to scare kids, but we are living in a very bad world, which mean these little things can help them very much. Explain to them that drugs can come in any form, fluid or pill.
That is the reason why they should really trust someone who is giving them something to drink unless they know them very well. Hospital is different, as there they have people who look after their healt. I am quite sure that this sounds devastating, but who wants to loose a child and later think why did I not do more to teach and protect them?
I really need to do this slowly and step by step. When your child grows up and land in a group that do drugs he/she will definitely think back on what you taught them many years ago.
In a previous post I wrote about socialization if you want to read it. There I teach children how to pick out there friends and make sure that they all on the same wavelength. Once a child gets into trouble with bad kids and drugs, it can be heart breaking problem to help them.
Fortunately there are really good people out in the world who try to help kids on drugs, but it is so much better for them and the parents if it is not necessary.
So please try your best to help your children be safe. They are such wonderful gifts to us and we really don’t want to see them get hurt.
The last part of my post is for older children, but this does not have to happen if we help them when they are young.
