When children are playing with numbers and they start to realize that all numbers are not the same and that one number added or subtracted with another number give a different number with a new value, this is when they are building on the mathematical fundamentals, and this will create an environment where they can trust them selves that they actually understand the basics.
What do we need to do this exercise?
3 to 5 plastic egg containers that can open and close .
1 box of M&M sweets
And 3 to 5 small plastic bags
How to conduct the exercise
1. Place a number of sweets (below 10) in a small plastic bag and then place the small plastic bag with sweets into the plastic egg container, then do the same with all the other plastic egg containers but ensure that the number of sweets inside each plastic egg container is different from one another.
2. Let your child go outside the room and hide it from him/her.
3. Instruct him/her to search for the containers and once they found it they have to count out load the number of plastic egg containers and when opening each small plastic bag inside the plastic egg container they have to count the number as well.
4. With reputation of counting it becomes part of their memory and with the sweets they learn that math is fun and sweet.
Note: You can make this a lot of fun by also playing this outside in the garden and if you choose different colors of plastic container eggs then he/she can learn number counting and different colors all together.
Happy learning
