Hi guys this time it’s about our friend, Mother nature.
The environment helps us a lot in our day to day activities. As I said before the environment is our friend. The environment has been too much close with our ancestors but nowadays, we are not close with the environment. It’s because we do not do the things that are good to the environment. So the environment becomes weak by day by day. Though we don’t love the environment, the environment still loves us. It tries to protect us with its best. If we become much close with the environment, we still can save the environment as well as ourselves.
There are three main ways in which people use the environment.
- Using the environment without modifying it
- Working in co-operation with the environment
- Using the environment by modifying it.
How the environment helps economic, social, political and cultural development
- Obtaining water, air, food for the existence of animals.
- Using environmental resources for food, clothing, building and other things.
- Using natural objects for worshiping and beliefs.
- Using minerals as raw materials in industries.
- Using fossil fuels and wood for energy.
- Utilizing rivers for transport.
Why does man modifies and pollutes the environment???
- Growth of population.
- Technological dvelpment
- High use of mineral resources.
- Expansion of international trade
- Changing the environment for the needs of man
- Global warming
- Melting of ice glaciers
- Floods
- Drought
- Thinning of the ozone layer
- Scarcity of water
- Rise of the sea level
- Destruction of corals
- Destruction of Eco systems
- Acid rain
- Decrease the use of chemical fertilizers as much as possible.
- Using methods to prevent the environment being polluted by industrial development
- Proper disposal of garbage
- Increase the use of eco friendly materials
- Avoiding filling and clearing of wetlands.
- Start reforestation
- Prevent deforestation
Because of the pollution of the environment, the environment subjects to face many problems. Some of the environmental problems are,
Development is the major cause for environmental pollution. But we have to develop. So we should practice Sustainable development.
What is Sustainable development?
Sustainable development is the development leading to satisfy the present needs while simultaneously creating an environment ensuring the rights of the future generations to fulfill their needs.
Our ancestors practiced sustainable development. That's why we can live without much problems with the environment. In the past of Sri Lanka, They used shifting agricultural methods for cultivation. When one plot of land is unfertiled or an unsuitable season comes, the moved on to another plot but after leaving the early plot for animal habitation. So there was a balance in the environment. Whey they need water for their lands they used canals which were and are helpful. And they grew Kumbuk trees on either sides of the canals so that they purify the water. Wen they had to cut a tree, they planted another tree. They worked in harmony with the environment.
What can we do to protect the environment from being polluted?
So Let's get together and protect our mother nature.
