Benny was a very interesting little worm. He was a very shy little worm, and spent most of his day reading. He lived in his own little world, and at night before he went to sleep, he made up his own stories. He had a vivid imagination, and his biggest dream was to become a world famous author. Benny started reading at a very young age even before he went to school. Once he started to attend school, he was quickly labeled as the nerd, because he was always somewhere in a corner with his nose stuck in a book. Because he was so shy and busy reading all the time, he didn't know how to make friends, and he kept to himself.
Benny's parents were very worried that he would become unsociable. Benny just had his own interests, and while the little worms in his class played outside or played computer games, Benny usually sat under a tree reading a book.
Benny often got into trouble at home, because he forgot to do his chores. He was just too busy reading, and his excuse would always be the same. He just wanted to finish the last page of the story he was reading. This frustrated his parents, but they also knew that reading was good for him, so they did not want him to stop reading.
Benny ended up having no friends, and it didn't seem to bother him. He didn't seem to mind that no one wanted to play with him, because that gave him more time for reading.
One day Benny was sitting in his usual place under the tree outside in the yard. His mother had friends over and was baking pancakes for her guests, when the oil spilled and the table cloth caught fire. The ladies went crazy running out of the house, screaming for help, but Benny's father was not at home. Nobody knew exactly what to do. Benny heard the screaming, and quickly ran inside to see what was happening.
The kitchen was engorged in flames, and his mother looked very panicky. She was about to pour water onto the flames, but Benny shouted at her not to do it. He quickly put down his book and ran outside to grab a bucket full of sand to kill the flames. He ran back inside and within a few minutes the fire was completely out.
All the ladies were very impressed by the manner in which he saved the day and suddenly he was the bravest little worm in town. He was the talk of the town, and some of the other little worms started to tease him about it.
The parents however, were all impressed with Benny, and when he was asked how he knew to put the fire out so quickly, he simply said that he read it in a book years ago.
They all started to force their kids to start reading too. They were sick and tired of their children only sitting in front of the television and video games. The other little worms resented him, because they would rather watch television, but soon enough their attitudes changed. Their parents were adamant.
Soon the other little worms, started to ask Benny to suggest books for them to read, and soon Benny started to make friends.
Benny's parents had a long talk with him, and suggested that he started to explore other options besides reading. His father told him that there should always be some form of balance in life and Benny knew that his father was right.
Reading was a good thing, but he also needed to start communicating more with other little worms. Benny soon found a balance in life, and became one of the most dedicated and clever friends that anyone could have.
Years later when Benny grew up, he achieved his lifelong dream, and he wrote his first book. It was a best seller and all his friends came to the book reveal. They all praised him and he was the luckiest worm in town.
The end.
