Hello and welcome to the concluding part of the topic I have started earlier some few days ago. In case you missed the first part, you can cover up for lost time and still read it by clicking here.
On the first episode we discussed extensively on several strikes that has been embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union Of Universities In Nigeria and In this closing chapter, we will now see the drastic effects of this strikes. Without wasting much time, lets do this together.

Firstly, strikes makes parents to become overly fed up. This is so because the joy of every parent is to see his or her child to graduate from the four walls of a university which is a signal that there is progress in the family. Another thing with parents is that they like to introduce their children to others as Graduates. However when this is now being delayed, it cause alarm and they begin to worry. Strikes are not good and not healthy in any society. Government should seek to make sure this is completely a thing of the past. Lecturers and teachers alike should be well treated as they continually and diligently impact on the academic and social wellbeing of students while in school.
Secondly, strikes makes students to lose interest in going to school. Prolonged strikes has rendered a lot of young people especially in Nigeria to become parents. I have a friend who because of the incessant strikes quit school and now does business. He got a young girl who was also a student pregnant because of the strike and now he is now in the family way. This is what strike is capable of. For example, I have not for the past 6months seen the four walls of my classroom because of strike. This is really bad.

Thirdly, strikes makes students and often times the general public to seek easier ways to get their certificate instead of attending school properly. In the act of doing this, lecturers who have not been paid for too long because of the strike now compromise their believes because of money to award certificates to students and several interested individuals who have never attended classes. This of course, causes most of the problems we see in our society today. Quite pathetic right?. You will discover that people will have certificate but can't defend it. Other times, they will be given jobs and they see themselves failing woefully because they were never learned but bought their certificates.
Fourthly, Strikes help to further Ascentuate Social Vices. As a result of strike, several students are rendered jobless. In so doing, several students who never think or have the initiative to learn something related to their field of study during this idle time will begin to cause nuisance to the general society. As it is often said, the idle mind is the devils place of work. The rate of killings, kidnappings, rape cases, stealing and so many other social vices suddenly increases exponentially. This is bad omen for any society.
Lastly, strikes also helps to further decrease the academic performance of students generally. Imagine a scenario when school is in session and suddenly, the school goes on strike and then you have nothing to do. As time goes by, you will lose interest in learning and it therefore impact on the academic performance of students negatively.
My Candid Advice
Well, I will just write a not too long advice for the government. From the above, it is quite obvious that strikes only mostly impacts negatively on students. Therefore, the government should therefore pay strict and prompt attention to the welfare of those who have volunteered to lecture, teach and advice the future leaders of tomorrow. Salaries should be paid on time as well as extra awards to further make them perform better. Likewise, student should be very wise when pushing for demands. Peace protest is enough to register your displeasure at a decision made by the management. Let's come together and make a great nation.
That's where I will stop on the topic "Devastating Effects Of Strikes On Students While In School".
