Tales from Teacher’s College
Source
We learn a lot of different things in Teacher’s college. We learn the fine art of educating the world youth. We are given the skills to prepare units, lessons and activities that will engage students and give them the wisdom to be responsible and productive members of society.
However, there are many other things that were taught to us as we were preparing to embark on our teaching journey. These are the stories from teachers college.
One of the most important messages that we ever received is one that I think is so important. As teachers, we give so much of ourselves. We are dedicated to our students and work countless hours to prepare lessons, mark assignments and all the other little things that need to be done. This doesn’t even include the classroom teaching and working with students every day. Those are all things that come out of our own time either late at school or taking work home and working late into the evening.
We were told very clearly that we should expect to give this time of ourselves and that it would be that type of commitment that could make the difference in our student's success. To put in an effort that was less would be an injustice for our students. Along with this message came another and I think even more important message:
Take care of yourself and take full advantage of the breaks.
Teachers need to find a way to fully relax over the holidays and recharge. What relaxes each person will be different but it is so important for teachers to re-energize themselves. The school year is so busy and stressful and it is so common for teachers to feel run down and tired.
We need to be at our best to give our all to our students and that means coming back with a fresh feeling and ready to go. It is like when you are on a plane and the emergency oxygen drops down. You're told to put yours on first before you put on for other people. The same applies to teachers. If you are not in a good place then t is harder to help your students.
Happy Summer Holidays!!!
