Yesterday, I went out with my parents for lunch in one of the shopping malls near my area. As we entered the mall, a bunch of kids welcomed us with awesome moves. They are kids taking up Taekwondo Summer class held at the mall. Let me show you some pictures I took yesterday.
Upon seeing this, I felt really good to see children trying to engage in martial arts like Taekwondo because I believe that this will be helpful or beneficial for them. Now, let me share to you some benefits one can get when you engage yourself in martial arts.
Self-Defense
- Of course, one of the many reasons why someone wants to engage in martial arts is for self-defense. Children and even adults alike will learn how to protect themselves in times of need. Not every time are we there to protect our kids, so having them learn some martial arts would really help them.
Self-Disciplne
- Another important purpose of martial arts is being able to have self-discipline. Upon learning martial arts, learners are also taught how to be responsible of themselves, how to follow directions or instructions, be accountable of their doings and of course, be able to take pride in doing the right thing.
Self-Confidence
- Learners of martial arts also enhance their confidence or self-esteem. For example in some forms of martial arts, they have to earn their belt... and as they continue to grow as a martial artist, the more they feel good about themselves. They try to strive even harder for their goals. Also, simply the thought of being able to protect themselves will make them have more confidence.
Respect
- One of the greatest values that are emphasized in teaching martial arts is RESPECT. One must respect their teachers/masters, one must respect their fellow martial artists and one must respect himself or herself. It is something beneficial not just as a martial artist but as a person. If the learners learn how to respect themselves and others, then they'll get the opportunity to be respected in return.
Positive Social Interaction and Teamwork
- Since they are taught how to respect, the value of teamwork comes next. If there is teamwork, they'll be able to experience a positive social interaction. Although learning martial arts help you to protect yourself, it doesn't mean that you are to learn it alone. You get to socialize and interact with a lot of people who are also learning martial arts. You get to learn how to correctly deal with different types of people as well.
Physical Fitness and Health
- Learning martial arts make one learn how to take care of their body. It's easier for them to value health and maintaining a physically fit body and mind. Starting to be aware of one's health at a young age would do great things when one gets older.
The things I mentioned above are just some of the many benefits that one can attain when learning martial arts. It's really great to see children getting themselves busy even during vacation by learning something new while having fun in doing so. In the same mall where I saw those kids learning Taekwondo, they're also offering a bunch of other summer classes. I took a picture of the summer classes they offer there below.
Never be afraid to try and learn something new for it will help you open more doors in the future! Live life to the fullest and don't forget to enjoy! Have a great day everyone!
