This is an easy way to learn Seaborgium, Bohrium, Hassium, Meitnerium and Darmstadtium. Learning with memory techniques is much easier than rote repetition. Especially when the images are already layed out to you in a clear and intuitive way. We will cover five elements per post with special training images for all elements and numbers. Elements Legend
Each element comes with a special training image. These contain the element number, a common application, a phonetically similar image for the name and the element symbol. The color of each training image indicates the element category.
The Major System for Numbers
To memorize all elements by number we will use the Visual Major System to encode numbers into images. Please make sure you understand its principles. Here is a quick reminder how this system works:
- We encode digits into consonants
- We pair the letters with phonetically similar consonants
- Vowels are free to create words
- Below on the graphic are the ten main letters
106. Seaborgium
In the Visual Major System 1 = T or D, 0 = R and 6 = G or K. With that we can create the word TRUCK for 106. The one hundred and sixth element Seaborgium sounds like seaborne and we can imagine a ship. This element is radioactive.

107. Bohrium
In the Visual Major System 1 = 1 or D, 0 = R and 7 = L. With that we can create the word TROLL for 107. The one hundred and seventh element Bohrium sounds like Boa. The element is radioactive.

108. Hassium
In the Visual Major System 1 = T or D, 0 = R and 8 = B or P. With that we can create the word TRAP for 108. The one hundred and eighth element Hassium sounds a bit like hazelnut. The element is radioactive.
You want to catch a squirrel with a trap so you put a hazelnut into it but it snaps onto your finger which starts to glow radioactevely. Ouch!
Come up with your own story or ask your students to that.
109. Meitnerium
In the Visual Major System 1 = T or D, 0 = R and 9 = J or SH or CH. With that we can create the word TORCH for 109. The one hundred and ninth element Meitnerium sounds like maid. The element is radioactive.
110. Darmstadtium
In the Visual Major System 1 = T or D and 0 = R. With that we can create the word DETOUR for 110. The one-hundred and tenth element Darmstadtium sounds like arm + stadium and we can imagine a shouting football fan. The element is radioactive.
