On a recent pilgrimage to Nepal for Shivratri to celebrate Shiva's birthday, we visited to the sacred Pashupatti Shiva temple. Ravaged by time and earthquake, amidst the throngs of yogic saddu and 3,000,000 devotees attending i became fascinated with the noble serenity of Nandi, Shiva's chariot. I found peace, there at the back of the temple, amidst the ruins i found The Gate Keeper of Shiva's abode, calm and alert awaiting to bestow blessings before Shiva darshan.
Destruction all around, yet still Nandi has surrendered completely, therefore he has all of the powers and protection of Shiva, the Lord of Destruction and Transformation.. Displaying unyielding loyalty, patience and tranquility.
The primeaval Shiva Lingam is endless cosmic power and light, representing the supreme creative principle.
