Day 28 of 100 for 's Poetry Challenge
Musical Chairs
The man in the big grey suit
Sat the child down and spat out his words
So that they formed a crust
Around the perimeter of the child's
Sense of self and wonder
"You'll do as I tell you."
He spoke like a fire breathing dragon
Pumped full of life's anguish and resentments
Towards all that is good and holy
and desiring of life
The child had heard it all before
So many times he had lost count
He allowed the words to filter through
Trickle down and run their course
As they always had
Perhaps this is life, he thought
Perhaps this is the game and he's playing it wrong
But size seems to matter
As venom revealed itself in the eyes
Of the grey suited angry man
"If only you were more like..."
He stopped listening at this point
Musical chairs going around in his head
Sounding like words now stripped of their pain
And given a new course.
