One thing that has kind of been daunting for me since undertaking this whole "I'm going to learn how to build a game for the community" experience is figuring out how to promote it and how to show progress. I realize that not every week can be a new demo or flashy video to show everyone and I think that's an unfair thing to try to achieve. This entire experience is very much hands on learning and while I can assure everyone that I'm not going to put out a crappy boring game that I wouldn't play myself, I struggle with how to really give progress updates when I don't have anything to show. This is one of those weeks I guess.
I'm currently hammering out some code and working on expanding some things in the database that need to be there for progression reasons or mechanical reasons. You see, what I've learned is that ways that RPGs make areas evolve and change over time is often by using items or switches that show a certain level of progression has been completed, and what that means is that as the story evolves and the world gets bigger, so does the database. I originally had the idea in my head that I would be able to get everything I wanted to do done by the end of November, but realistically that wasn't a very feasible goal for a first time game.
I'll continue working towards getting the game finished and I'll keep releasing updates as I feel that there is substantial playable progress made, but for now I guess I'll just let everyone know that I'm working on a lot of the things that people playing a game would never see. It's cool learning and getting this hands on experience as it's giving me a much greater perspective of how much work goes into a game and I can certainly see why some of the greatest RPGs I've ever played had teams of hundreds of people working on them. Thanks again for the support everyone and if you'd like to check out the Fundition click here. The latest playable demo is available in my Mega.nz folder here.
