You may have already read that recently I had bought some gold foil Hydras and combined them to reach level 4. I have to say that a few days ago I really exaggerated and did the same with the gold foil alpha cards 'Gold Dragon' and 'Angel Of Light': they all are at level 4 now.
Furthermore (among other cards) I uplevelled the summoner 'Daria Dragonscale' to be able to use my new 'Gold Dragon' at max level and 'Divine Sorceress' (the most beautiful card of the game). :)

Participation in the "alpha gold 100 Steem premiere league" tournament

Of course I was eagerly waiting to watch all these gold foil cards fighting in a real tournament, and then, yesterday, there was the opportunity to do exactly that (at least I thought so ... but as you will see, sometimes things run somewhat different than expected): the alpha gold 100 Steem premiere league tournament with the rule set "gold foil only, gold level limits, alpha only, best of 3, double elimintation".

First I noticed that the gold level limits wouldn't allow my new monsters to show their full strength, but I considered that as minor detail.
Finally, the first match game was approaching, and, as you can see under the tournament link, my first opponent was Hive account@jarwow. When arranging my team I got aware that I couldn't use 'Daria Dragonscale' as summoner because it's no alpha card. I own an alpha gold foil 'Selenia Sky' summoner, but its level is only 2. Therefore I decided to use the 'Life Splinter' led by 'Tyrus Paladium' as summoner (that means my 'Gold Dragon' wasn't allowed to take part in the match). Being a beta card also the 'Hydra' couldn't join the match. OK, no problem, let's show my legendaries another time. :)

Gremlin is lurking everywhere.

I have to admit that not reading (and thinking about) the rule set carefully before joining the tournament was by far not my last mistake, no, the opposite is the case! :)
Quickly I won my first battle against Hive account@jarwow and wanted to proceed to start the second, when he asked me why I had used the 'Divine Sorceress' which isn't an alpha card. Yes, sure, why the hell I overlooked that? The game had to be repeated ... Fortunately I won the match with my now already rather decimated 'dream team'.

My next opponent was Hive account@tendershepard (the Steem Monsters account of Hive account@aggroed). While building my team, only a few gold foil cards were shown. I tried to inform him about that in the Discord #tournaments-chat, but under time pressure at first misspelled his name, so that he wasn't aware of my message. Finally the clock had run down, so that unintentionally I fled the battlefield. (In the meanwhile I know that I have to choose "Alpha Cards Only" when challenging an opponent, and then, when building their teams, both players can select to use gold cards only.
Very kindly he agreed to repeat the fight. At this point I have to thank him for moderating the whole tournament so patiently, even if he was taking part in the competition himself!

Final reached but not won!

Finally, I (undeservedly) also won my match against Hive account@tendershepard. However, then I lost against Hive account@jarvie and had to join the "losers round". There I defeated Hive account@victor-alexander (the Steem Monsters account of Hive account@alexvan), then again Hive account@tendershepard, and in the end was able to take revenge on Hive account@jarvie. The final of the tournament was reached! There Hive account@toocurious proved to be a strong opponent, too strong ... congrats to him for winning the tournament! :)

For my hard work (phew, what a stress caused by making all these mistakes) I got rewarded with 25 STEEM. In spite of being a little bit chaotic my first gold foil tournament was really great, and I enjoyed it a lot!

Future automatization

Certainly, in future these competitions will take place in a more automated way to prevent most of the errors mentioned above.

Here you can watch the first game in my match against Hive account@gringotts (the gold foil account of Hive account@jarvie) after which I reached the final. The only reasonable way to combat the 'Frozen Soldier' is the use of 'Magic Attack' ...

A note from a tactical point of view: of course I know that being successful in these kind of tournaments requires strong decks with many gold foil monsters of all kinds, also common and rare ones. I just focus on legendary and epic cards as beside enjoying to watch them fight, in the first place I consider them as precious financial investments.

Vielleicht habt ihr bereits gelesen, dass ich einige Goldfolienhydras erworben und bis zum Erreichen von Level 4 kombiniert hatte. Vor einigen Tagen übertrieb ich es jedoch endgültig und tat dasselbe mit den Alpha-Karten 'Gold Dragon' und 'Angel Of Light': Sie alle weisen nun Level 4 auf.
Desweiteren levelte ich (neben anderen Karten) den Summoner 'Daria Dragonscale' - um den neuen 'Gold Dragon' auf Max-Level nutzen zu können - und 'Divine Sorceress' (die schönste Karte des Spiels) up. :)

Teilnahme am "alpha gold 100 Steem premiere league"-Turnier

Natürlich wartete ich ungeduldig darauf, all diese Goldkarten in einem richtigen Turnier kämpfen zu sehen, und gestern bot sich dann in Form des "alpha gold 100 Steem premiere league-Turniers" mit dem Regelwerk "gold foil only, gold level limits, alpha only, best of 3, double elimintation" die Gelegenheit dazu (zumindest glaubte ich das ... aber wie ihr sehen werdet, kommen Dinge manchmal etwas anders als man denkt).

Als Erstes bemerkte ich, dass die Goldlevel-Limits es meinen neuen Monstern nicht erlauben würden, ihre volle Kraft zu entfalten, aber das war nicht weiter schlimm.
Schließlich stand das erste Match bevor, und wie ihr unter dem Turnier-Link nachsehen könnt, hieß mein erster Gegner Hive account@jarwow. Während ich mein Team zusammenstellte wurde mir bewusst, 'Daria Dragonscale' als Summoner gar nicht verwenden zu können, da es sich nicht um eine Alpha-Karte handelt. Ich besitze zwar den Alpha-Goldfoliensummoner 'Selenia Sky', aber er befindet sich nur auf Level 2. Deshalb entschied ich mich dazu, mit dem 'Life-Splinter', geführt von 'Tyrus Paladium' als Summoner, anzutreten (was zugleich bedeutete, ohne meinen 'Gold Dragon' auskommen zu müssen). Als Beta-Karte konnte auch die 'Hydra' nicht teilnehmen. OK, kein Problem, dann müssen meine 'Legendaries' halt ein andermal beweisen, wie gut sie sind. :)

Der Fehlerteufel lauert überall.

Ich muss zugeben, dass es nicht mein einziger Fehler blieb, das Regelwerk vor Eintritt ins Turnier nicht sorgfältig genug zu lesen - nein, das Gegenteil ist der Fall! :)
Schnell gewann ich meine erste Schlacht gegen Hive account@jarwow und wollte mit der zweiten fortfahren, als er mich fragte, weshalb ich die 'Divine Sorceress' benutzt habe, obwohl sie keine Alpha-Karte ist. Ja, stimmt, warum zum Teufel hatte ich das nicht selbst bemerkt? Das Spiel musste wiederholt werden ... Glücklicherweise gewann ich das Match mit meinem nun schon ziemlich dezimierten 'Dream-Team'.

Mein nächster Gegner war Hive account@tendershepard (der Steem Monsters-Account von Hive account@aggroed). Beim Aufstellen meiner Armee fiel mir auf, dass nur wenige meiner Goldfolienkarten angezeigt wurden. Ich versuchte, ihn darüber im Discord-#tournaments-chat zu informieren, aber unter Zeitdruck schrieb ich zunächst seinen Namen falsch, so dass er meine Nachricht nicht bemerkte. Schließlich war die Zeit abgelaufen, und ich somit unbeabsichtigterweise vom Schlachtfeld geflohen. (Mittlerweile weiß ich, dass man beim der Herausforderung eines Gegners "Alpha Cards Only" wählen muss. Später, bei der Team-Bildung, haben beide Spieler dann die Möglichkeit, ausschließlich Goldkarten auszuwählen.)
Freundlicherweise stimmte Hive account@tendershepard zu, den Kampf zu wiederholen. An dieser Stelle möchte ich mich dafür bedanken, wie geduldig er das gesamte Turnier moderierte, obwohl er selbst daran teilnahm.

Finale erreicht, aber nicht gewonnen!

Schließlich gewann ich auch dieses Match (mit dem Gefühl, es nicht verdient zu haben). Danach verlor ich jedoch Hive account@jarvie und musste in die 'Trostrunde'. Dort besiegte ich Hive account@victor-alexander (den Steem Monsters-Account von Hive account@alexvan), dann wieder Hive account@tendershepard, und am Ende gelang mir die Revanche gegen Hive account@jarvie. Das Finale des Turniers war erreicht! Dort erwies sich Hive account@toocurious als starker Gegner, zu starker Gegner ... Herzlichen Glückwunsch an den Turniersieger! :)

Für meine harte Arbeit (puh, was für ein Stress, vor allem erzeugt durch meine eigenen Unachtsamkeiten) wurde ich mit 25 STEEM belohnt. Trotz des etwas chaotischen Turnierverlaufs bereitete mir mein erstes Goldkartenturnier großen Spaß!

Zukünftige Automatisierung

Sicherlich laufen diese Wettkämpfe zukünftig in immer automatisierterer Form ab, wodurch ein Großteil der erwähnten Fehler nicht mehr auftreten wird.

Hier könnt ihr euch den ersten Kampf meines Matches gegen Hive account@gringotts (den Goldfolien-Account von Hive account@jarvie) ansehen, der den Grundstein für den Einzug ins Finale bildete. Die einzig sinnvolle Art und Weise, den 'Frozen Soldier' zu bekämpfen, ist die Verwendung von 'Magic Attack' ...

Eine Anmerkung vom spieltaktischen Gesichtspunkt: Natürlich ist mir klar, dass das erfolgreiche Bestreiten solcher Turniere gut besetzte Decks mit vielen Goldfolienmonstern aller Art, auch 'Commons' und 'Rares' erfordert. Ich fokussiere deshalb auf die 'Legendary-' und 'Epic-'Karten, weil sie für mich, abgesehen vom Spaß, sie kämpfen zu sehen, in erster Linie wertvolle Investments darstellen.
