The Spineback Wolf a Beginning
It was a bright morning as the young wolf hunted in the forest. He had not eaten in days. The land was different now than it had been and food was getting harder to find. He was having to come closer to the towns. He didn’t like to hunt near them as the men that lived him them always seemed to cause him trouble. He caught a smell that he knew and started to creep slowly not making any sounds. He peer from the underbrush at a goat he knew it belong to the men but the hungry in him pushed him past his fear. He sprung out and the kill was fast. He started to eat right there letting his guard down for just a moment. With the smell of the meal so strong he didn't’ catch the stench of the man till the last moment.
The arrow as in the air before he caught that sent but is instinct knew he was in trouble, he moved. The arrow caught him in the tail. He could see the farmer notching another. He headed back for the underbrush that would protect him. The farmer let fly as the young wolf jumped into the bush, he felt a pain in his side. He landed hard but was able to keep moving slowly away from the farm. He moved further and further away then slowed down to smell and listen. There was nothing to be heard or smelt around him. He looked around at the forest it was different. There was a darkness to it. He had ended up in a part of the woods he had been avoiding. It smelled of death and had a dampness that didn’t belong on this warm day. He heard a sound behind him and pressed on deeper into the woods but his strength was starting to fade.
He stopped to lie down and smell the air. He didn’t have the strength to go on but also he didn’t detect the farmer. In fact he didn’t smell anything. The trees around him had bark as black as death with thorns coming out. There was a coldness so strong that the burning of his wounds started to fade. He thought back to before he was alone. His pack had been strong but those humans had killed us all. He didn’t think he would even leave his place again. He felt his life started to fade. His anger flared, those humans so holy in their actions. Always feeling they have a right to this land. Our pack went back much further than them. We never kill for fun like they do. They are evil creatures I will kill them. The anger was so strong in him and the forest shuttered.
Then came a voice.“I can help you with that”
There was a figure in the darkness. He had on flowing robes of black and purple and red and a face so dark he couldn't see it. He spoke again.
“If you will head my summons when I call I will give you the powers to strike back at them. We will talk this world from them and bring them the death they deserve.”
He heard those worlds and only only thought cross his mind, YES!. With that the staff the figure carried started to glow green and rushed towards him. The arrow was pushed out of his side and a shard thorn replaced it. Morn thorns sprung out as his coat turn as dark as night. He grew bigger than any wolf he and know. A patch of white fur was along his bottom and he stood feeling the strength flow throughout his body
“I will call you soon but for now I leave you to do as you wish” With that the figure was gone.
The anger filled him still and was stronger than before. He sniffed the air and found the farmer. He was surprised at the how far the farmer was away from him. When he set off he thought he was close. His new powers seem to improve everything he could do. He caught the man as he was heading back into the town. He knocked him down and crushed his bow with his jaws. The farmer started to beg. He could understand them that was also new. It wasn’t a fast kill. He took his time. When he was finished he looked towards the town. He headed towards it with the speed of his new body. Tonight they pay for what they have done to my pack. The anger was still there in the morning even when there was no one left to punish. He heard a calling that he could not resist and headed off into the forest to find his new master.
