You're missing a couple really important things:
Haunted Spirit can only be used with the Death Splinter whereas this card is neutral and can be used with any Splinter.
This card has Magic attack so it can attack from any position whereas Haunted Spirit has Melee and can only attack from the first position (in most rulesets).
In a higher mana cap game, if you suspect you'll be up against a heavy magic attack team, you could use this card behind a Haunted Spirit and totally shut down their attacks. This card could also be pretty powerful in the "Target Practice" ruleset, again since it can be placed in a back-row position to soak up all the Snipe attacks.
