The world's largest social network announced on Monday the publication of "aggregated and anonymized" data from its user base. The goal: to allow researchers to analyze the spread of the coronavirus by measuring the effectiveness of containment, for example. A similar announcement was made by the giant Google last Friday April 3rd.
While billions of people around the world are called upon to confine themselves to fighting the spread of the coronavirus, the technology giants are responding. Facebook, used by more than 2 billion internet users worldwide, announced on Monday the sharing of valuable "aggregated and anonymized" data.
In detail, the giant of Silicon Valley will offer researchers "three new types of disease prevention cards" updated daily, according to a press release.
The first type of mapping, is known as "grouping", "reveals the likelihood of people from one region coming into contact with people from another region, which highlights where COVID- 19 can then appear ", according to a note on the dedicated site.
Another measure, is called "social connectivity", makes it possible to quantify and visualize the social ties that the inhabitants of a region have with other regions. The goal: "to help epidemiologists predict the spread of the disease, and identify the regions that will need the most help," says Facebook.
Finally, a third tool will make it possible to visualize compliance with confinement at the regional level. "Trends in range of motion show, regionally, whether people are staying close to their home or visiting many parts of the city, which can help to determine whether preventive measures are in the right place direction ", justifies the group.
