Beginner Tips
About a week ago, I promised my new Redfish Rockets I would publish a post with some useful tips on how to find their way on the SteemIt platform. Because I have been sick all week, I couldn't keep my promise and had to delay the post until today.
My sincere apologies for being this late.
Since I don't think it is necessary to re-invent the wheel over and over again, I will mainly share with you what others have created to make those first weeks on SteemIt a little easier for newcomers.
You don't have to process all the information at once - you would probably fry your brain, lol. One step at a time, that's how you will eventually find your way on the SteemIt platform. It may look like a jungle now, but you'll be used to it before you know it. SteemIt is an everlasting learning project - at least, that's what it is for me. I've been here for 15 months, and I'm still learning new things every day.
So don't push yourself too hard. If you're in for the long run, you'll have plenty of time to process all that new information. The most important thing you need to remember is that you should have FUN! If you don't have fun, why bother doing it? By now you've probably already realized you should not be doing it for the money...
If you hadn't... sorry to burst the bubble. :0)
Resources
The resources mentioned below have been developed with newcomers in mind. They cover the basic knowledge about SteemIt or the Steem blockchain that will help you to get started.
During your adventure, you will come across plenty of new opportunities to learn something extra... but you need to get the basics first.
With 'the basics' I'm referring to things like account security (very important!!), the difference between Steem, SBD and Steem Power, using your wallet, growing your account and more. You will find all you need to know, and more in the courses mentioned below.
If you have any questions afterward, feel free to ask.
1 - Steem Savvy
Steem Savvy is an external membership site that offers you a free SteemIt course. Once you've created your free account you will find 10 videos that will allow you to learn the basics at your own pace. In the videos, the people from Steem Savvy break down that giant truckload of information into smaller, digestible pieces.
Once you've completed the course, you'll have a basic understanding of how SteemIt works.

2 - Understanding the STEEM Blockchain Economy
This free Udemy course was created by our very own . (I'll tell you more about her further down this post.)
It covers about the same basics as the previous course, but goes deeper into the matters of voting mana (and how to keep an eye on it) and resource credits.
Again, you get to see a series of short videos in which the different topics are explained. You also get the opportunity to try out a couple of things to make sure you've processed the information.
The entire course takes up about 1 hour, and you can watch it for free after registering on the Udemy website.

3 - SteemIt Vocabulary
This post by lists the most important words on SteemIt. I recommend you give the post a quick read to get a basic idea, but I'm pretty sure you'll learn all vocabulary you need along the way.
4 - The 7 Fundamental Questions About Steemit
I only came across this old post from last week, but I thought it was a very interesting read.
It's a curation post that contains links to posts that answer questions like 'Where does the money come from?', 'What is a witness' and 'Can I get hacked on SteemIt'. Again, very useful information if you want to become a part of the SteemIt ecosystem.
Make sure you've got the vocabulary down before you start reading this one.
5 - An Efficient Way To Buy Steem - 7 Simple Steps
It is not a necessity, but if you want to grow your account fast, the best way to do it is by buying some Steem. Because the price of Steem is so low these days, it will only take you about $30 to get 100 Steem, which you can convert into 100SP. No more resource credits issues ever!
I realize this option is not for everyone, but still, I wanted to mention it. Don't worry if you don't have the means to purchase Steem - you don't have to. But in case you want to, my good friend has published a step-by-step tutorial on how to turn US Dollars into Steem.
(In case you live in Belgium or The Netherlands, drop me a note. There's a much more direct way to purchase Steem with Euros.)
Redfish Power UP League
I assume that is more than enough reading/watching material for the close future. If you have gone through the posts and courses mentioned above, you'll have a pretty good understanding of what you worked yourself into. Please, do not overdo it, SteemIt isn't going anywhere soon, so you can take all the time you need. Remember: it is important that you ENJOY your time on SteemIt.
My last chunk of information for today is a lot more fun, and only takes up 2 minutes of your time.
Well, she hosts the 'Redfish Power UP League' and publishes a weekly post with the result.
The Redfish Power Up League is a great way to keep track of how you're doing when it comes to growing your account.
When a Redfish joins the league the owned STEEM Power(SP) on date of joining will be recorded. Every week I will then capture the current owned SP and calculate the % increase to date. (..) Once you become a Minnow your success will be celebrated and you will be removed from the Redfish weekly leader board and added to the Wall of Fame when you graduated. - Source
I can assure you, there will be a time for every single one of you that you will need a little motivation to push through. The Redfish Power Up League can be that motivation that you need to keep you from leaving the platform without getting to know our amazing community.
Why you should enter For the fun. To meet new people. To engage with others, you would not normally have the chance to engage with. For the healthy competition. To watch your growth and give motivation. To be seen on the Wall of Fame. To win steembasicincome units.
So that's your assignment for today:
Hop over to the latest Redfish Power Up League-post onFrom that point forward, just check the weekly post on Wednesdays to see how you've done during that week. Meanwhile, you can meet other newcomers and swim towards minnowhood together.
Because that is what SteemIt is about: community.
SteemIt is not a solo flight, it's a community project.
SteemIt is not a solo flight, it's a community project.
