I bet you've heard of it before, the Germania silver round. It's minted by the private Germania Mint, which is the brainchild of the Kurowski Group, a company active in the numismatic field since 1986. The 2019 Germania is not a coin, as the currency Mark doesn't exist anymore. But there might be some confusion regarding that.
Obverse
The silver round is inspired by the British Britannia. But the Germania as a personification for the German people has been used for hundreds of years. The most famous depiction is the Niederwalddenkmal in Germany. On this silver round, she's facing left while holding sword and shield.Reverse
On the reverse a double headed eagle is depicted. The double headed eagle was used on many different coins, most notably during the austrian habsburg dynasty. It's framed by two laurel branches and the denomination of 5 Mark at the top and the series name Germania at the bottom. Conclusion
The Germania coin is a neat idea for a series, but not very original in my opinion. But that's a problem of the whole mint. They are basing their series strongly on the Royal Mint. Especially their new "Germanian Beasts" series sounds familiar. I hope they come up with more original ideas in the future. What do you think about the Germania rounds?
