I’ve been stacking for a few years now but when I started out I was just looking for a solid investment that would get me out of the broken financial system. I didn’t even know what Stackitus was back then and so it wasn’t the irresistible pull of hoarding shiny stuff that brought me into this space. I was just trying to figure out what was likely to be the best investment over the long run. I did a lot of research into it and eventually decided on Semi-Numismatic Coin Series.
A lot of Stackers just like plain old bars and for them the Spot Price is the most important thing. There is usually negligible premium on bars so for a straight up play on the Spot Price it’s easy to see why so many hard-core stackers choose bars. On the other extreme are the Numismatic investors who like to buy rare and obscure Gold or Silver coins from history and I salute those who venture into Numismatics because calculating Premiums on Numismatic coins seems like a bit of a Dark Art to me. It seems you need years of experience and a very good eye to be able to value that stuff properly. If you get it wrong it can be very costly!
So when I started out I decided on Semi-Numismatics. My logic behind it was that a lot of Semi-Numismatic coins come out and initially there is not a lot of Premium. For a current year coin you pay maybe Spot Price plus a few percent for Gold, a bit more for Silver. You have good exposure to the Spot Price but you also have potential Numismatic upside if years down the track your coin has built up some demand. Normally Semi-Numismatics have a fixed and limited Mintage, so scarcity comes into play and those who like collecting sets and series can add to demand down the road. So when you’re buying a Semi-Numismatic coin with a current year, there is very little downside risk when it comes to Premium and yet there is upside potential. That is my kind of investment.
It’s actually been a while since I bought any Gold or Silver. I’ve been happy with my stack size and since getting into Cryptos and then STEEM I’ve been pretty busy. But a lot of the Semi-Numismatic Coin Series that I have been stocking have come out for 2018 so it’s time for me to start buying again. Unfortunately there aren’t any coin dealers near me, so it’s either a big drive or an online order (or 3) which is going to be required. I’ve never published an unboxing video but now that I’m involved in such a great community here at #SteemSilverGold it’s probably time for me to step up to the plate and start practising what I preach. Stay tuned!
