Ever since trading some of my steem for silver with , I have had the urge to acquire more. And while I have another order on the way from him, it wasn't enough. Happily, as if today I have added a couple of dragons and a unicorn to my collection.
These coins are part of the Queen's Beasts series of coins that represent the beasts that stood guard at her coronation. The Red Dragon of Wales, minted in 2017, is the 4th coin in the series of which there will eventually be 10. In addition to being available in a 2 oz. silver coin (which is what I have), it is also available in 1/4 and 1 ounce gold coins. This was the coin that attracted me to the series because I love the design of the Welsh dragon in general and this is an excellent representation. I liked it so much I got a pair of these.
Not wanting the dragons to be lonely, I also picked up a unicorn. The Unicorn of Scotland, minted in 2018 is currently the latest coin in the series. These are my two favorite designs in the series and while I may have a budding addiction, I'm not yet to the point where I feel i have to acquire every coin in a series. I have no immediate plans to get any more of these.
A couple of interesting observations... These are really thick coins, the thickest i've seen. Other 2 oz coins I have seen are closer to the thickness of typical 1 oz coins, just greater in diameter. These are closer to the diameter of a 1 oz coin but thicker. Also, the texture on the front of the coins is different between the dragon and the unicorn. These aren't the greatest pictures but you can kind of see it in them. I'm not sure how these compare to the other coins in the series.
Until the next shipment... :)
