over the last few days we have been working on a big bucket of pennies
We learned that 8 pounds of pennies is worth about $15 , we found about 1 lb of copper and several wheat pennies including one from 1929
We added these to our book and the 1929 is now our 2nd oldest in the book
After the amount of pennies we have sorted(over 10,000 pennies this year) K is now very confident and has turned our coin hunt into a competition on many occasions like who is the first to find copper, who finds the most and who finds the oldest. This time it became a skills test, K is now experienced enough that we dump out a small pile and he can sort them first by color, then by touching them, finally he shines a bright light and confirms the ones that are copper. We started keeping track of his success rate and he did over 500 pennies without missing any copper with his techniques, it is really cool to see a 9 year old that can tell the metal that easily. We also found a few other interesting coins this is our favorite out of this hunt:
Thanks for reading and happy stacking!
