Good day Steemians!!! Welcome to D Wings World and today we are on a road trip!! Route 66 or The Main Street of America is a true part of the American experience and was established on November 11, 1926. The route not only served as a primary way for those moving west due to the dust bowl, but began to signafy our cultures love of the road trip. Being carved into pop culture with songs like "Get You Kicks on Route 66" and even had a television show in the 1960s. More than that, it provided economic success to anyone willing to build near it or be part of it. Now, APMEX has set out to capture this iconic route in a serious of 8 rounds in the very distinctive shield shape of a Route 66 road sign.
Below is the first in the series showing off the Gemini Giant
On the left you see the famous roadway with the head of the Gemini Giant sticking up over the horizon. The Gemini Giant is located in Wilminton, Will County, Illinois. It is named after the Gemini space program and holds a silver "rocket" in his hands, while sporting an astronauts helmet. The giant stands outside "The Launching Pad Drive-In" restaurant and has been the main decoration there since 1965.
On the right you see the shared reverse of the round set, which is modeled after the iconic Route 66 shield.
I have also included two rounds that were produced by APMEX prior to this series being produced.
On the left you see the reverse referencing the classic song that I mention above and once again showing off that famous Route 66 shield!
On the right you see the Route 66 shield being placed in the major part of the round with the initials of each state it runs through following the rim of the round as if they are following that iconic sign.
I really like this series and the sense of Americana that comes with it. In fact, I am planning on designing a custom display case for the two sets I am putting together after I have got the full sets in hand. I will probably feature that iconic sign as the top of the case. Please let me know what you guys think about this series, the designs, my case idea, the route iteself.
