My 2017 Steem Silver Round & My 1st Metals Article as an Official Member of SSG!

Seeing as how I was just inducted into the Hive account@ssg-community yesterday, I feel there is no better first metals post to write as a member than about the Hive account@steemsilverround!

The first official Steemit Silver 1 oz. round was designed last year in 2017 through a community driven design contest. In this contest, Steemit members have a chance to submit a SSR design to be voted on by the community. There are several rounds of voting where each round a design is eliminated, until there is only one design remaining, which becomes the design for that year's the round.

The inaugural 2017 Steem Silver Round Design Contest was won by Hive account@bearone. She was also the runner-up in the 2018 contest. Here is her winning design that is on the obverse of the original 2017 Steem Silver Round.

The reverse of these rounds has remained constant so far, since it will be the same in 2018 also, however who knows what the future hold for the reverse of these rounds in years to come. There may be a different reverse that the community comes up with eventually!

I have also ordered an additional 2017 Steem Silver Round with my 2018 pre-order stack! I had to grab one more as know I will have to let go of one of them at some point in the future, probably during the #anarchapulco conference in Mexico next February.

I originally ordered 25 2018 Hive account@steemsilverround's through Hive account@sevinwilson, but was able to snag 10 additional ones before the pre-sale sold out for a total of 35 Hive account@steemsilverround's coming my way! I am super excited to receive them, as they are scheduled to be here within the next couple of weeks. My plan is to take most of them to our vending stands at #anarchapulco & #anarchaforko, and distribute them there to other Steemians that missed the boat for the pre-sale. Luckily I was able to convince a couple other Steemit buddies of mine to order several rounds before the pre-sale ended.

This year's 2018 Steem Silver Round design contest was won by Hive account@welshstacker. Here is his winning design that will be on the obverse of the 2018 Hive account@steemsilverround:

There were 1500 rounds minted in 2017, and due to the increase in demand, the 2018 rounds were originally scheduled to have a mintage of 2500. As the pre-sale progressed however, the community voted to have the number of planned rounds decreased back to the original limited mintage of 1500 rounds for 2018, the same as 2017. I was pleased with the decision as this will only add value to the rounds that will be produced.

The 2018 winning round design by Hive account@welshstacker went on a little journey of its own after the community selected it. There were several adjustments made to the design, mostly to fit the requisites for actual mintage of the rounds, as some details were too fine for the press to reveal. There was also a major design change I suggested that was approved. At first, the Steemit symbol was hovering over the tree trunk in the design, encompassed in a disk. My suggestion was to carve the symbol into the trunk of the tree, I feel my suggestion was perfectly executed in the design. It is a shame the mint couldn't print the first edit that was sent in, and also not in 3D format, never the less, it still turned out fantastic. Certain mediums like coinage cannot always transfer detail.

So far the most recent update from Hive account@sevinwilson is that the 2018 Hive account@steemsilverround's should start getting in everyone's hands in about 2 weeks from now (June 18th-22nd). Our rounds were in line to be struck on June 4th, so they are being made as I am writing this. A die to strike the rounds with has been created, and a photo was sent to Hive account@sevinwilson for proof to show the community that progress is being made on the project (pictured below):

It was also reported that someone working at the mint said these rounds will probably turn out proof-like once struck. The mint seems very excited and honored to be working on these rounds. The mint will also be engraving individual serial numbers on the side of each round, corresponding with the number on each certificate of authenticity (COA), making each Hive account@steemsilverround unique.

In the mean time I had to pick up a couple of Hive account@pit-bullion's 5 oz Steemit bars and am planning on getting some hand-poured Steem Silver rounds from him very soon.

I am still looking to get one of those lucky 40 Steem Hexagons if any of you guys are willing to come off an extra one you have. I am releasing an album next month called The Hex Wrecker, but I promise I will not wreck that hex if I get a hold of one (I like puns).
