Hi everyone! Hope that everyone in the #steemsilvergold group is well and has been adding more silver to the stack.
I picked up this RCM silver 10 oz bar a couple of years back, but don't think that I have ever shown it on Steemit?
I was curious if others in the #ssg group picked up any of these as well? They were a pretty big deal, since it was the first time that eBay collaborated with a Mint to make a limited silver bar.
I forget the exact mintage, but it is 6 digits. I know that I have seen many higher numbers. This one is a lower serial number (#4523).
The lower serial numbers bring a pretty nice premium, considering that spot price is being suppressed so much lately!
I like to collect what I call "crossover" bullion.
Basically bars, rounds, and medals that appeal to more than just one group of collectors.
Ex: Lots of eBay buyers/sellers would like a 10 oz RCM/eBay bar......gun rounds and bars with specific brand names....vintage Casino rounds....trademark company advertising silver like Coke, Pepsi, Budweiser, Harley Davidson, Ohio State Buckeyes, Mac Tools, specific military ships, small town Sesquintennials, ect ect.
With these I am not totally dependant upon spot price, if I decide to sell them - plus I am really increasing my potential buyers. Many times you are selling this bar to a guy that just loves Harleys or Case XX pocket knives, and could care less what the spot price is today. He just wants that bar.
When I do sell one of these items, the "premium" is also invested right back into silver. So I turn my little 1 ounce round into hopefully 2 ounces (or more) of something less desirable.
I once almost passed on a 1 Ounce ship round, because $3.50 over spot seemed a little steep and it was slightly scruffy.
Lucky for me I bought it, and it was sold about 10 minutes after I listed it. A buyer contacted me and asked if I would "consider" taking $275 for it. He collected memorabilia from that ship and didn't know that a commemorative was made in the 1950's. Yes, I considered that very briefly 😊
I hope that you enjoyed the post. I'd love to hear your comments about your favorite types of silver to collect.
Who knows, maybe one of us in the #steemsilvergold group has one of those just lying around!
