This is the last post in my series on silver coins I picked up for cheap at my LCS. I saved my favorite one for last.
This is a 1953 1/4 Balboa. It's not got a lot of silver in it, but it has character in spades. Look at how grungy this thing is.
The back side even more so.
This is not particularly valuable, or in good shape. So why do I like it so much? 2 reasons. I think it has the potential to develop a great patina over the years. Especially on the back side. It kind of looks like someone rubbed something on the face to clean it, but didn't take the time to hit the edges, so I think it's pretty well ruined. But the back has the potential to look dynamite.
The 2nd reason is that this is the first and only Panamanian coin in my collection. It's not every day I see a low grade coin from a country that's unrepresented in my collection. And silver no less. I'm really excited to have picked this up.
