Golden greetings and silver salutations. I love stacking Kookaburras. In fact, this used to be my favorite coin to stack. I also like stacking Koalas. I know they come with a premium, but I have been fine with paying it in the past. They usually go up in value a bit, or at least retain that premium . That is unless you are trying to sell to your LCS, then good luck.
However, the Perth Mint is making me nervous. You may have seen in the past that I love baseball and sports cards. That was my first love and I thought the market would never die. Well the card manufacturers got greedy and set after set after set came out. Now I feel the Perth Mint is doing the same thing.
You may not have even have heard of all of these series, but for years there was only the Kooks and Koalas. Then the Kangaroos came out to provide a low premium option. Still cool. Well, the Wedge-Tailed Eagle came out, providing a lower mintage option. That is neat.
Then the Swans came along. For me, that is the start of the end. These had even lower mintages with super fast sellouts. They would be APMEX exclusives in the US and the price would rise by the day / hour / minute. They caused a lot of confusion and the price manipulation angered stackers. They have done this the last two years.
Enter the Emu in 2018. Another year another animal, right ?!? It came out as another APMEX exclusive and prices were immediately jacked up. Customers were upset.
Well they got that out of their system for this year. Wait, WTF is a "Bird of Paradise"? This thing just came out this week and prices are already going up.
So that is it for the week...wait...no?!? They would not reuse an animal, or would they? Meet the 2 oz Koala.
This thing looks demonic. Those eyes...they are staring right through me...make it stop!!!
Anyways, the premium is better, but the picture makes it look just plain ugly. Also, call me petty, but I dislike 2 oz coins. I do not want to buy special cases for coins. I buy Air-Tite 38 mm and 40 mm and I can fit most one oz coins here, but I do not have any 2 oz. cases.
Note, this is not even listing all the Perth animal coins in recent history. There was the Shark series, the Crocodile, and the Spider. If you don't know these, they are years old, available at many dealers, and yours for a low premium.
It is just too many...way too many. Perth Mint, please don't ruin the silver coin market by over saturating it!!!
Until next time, keep stacking and supporting #SteemSilverGold, #SteemUSA, and #TheAlliance!
TL:DR - Kookaburras, Koalas, Eagles, Swans, Emus, Kangaroos, Crocodiles, Sharks, Alligators...stop it Perth!
