One of the better things about this generic round is, it is stackable which is a nice touch. Here is a little bit of information provided by JMBullion.
Starting in 2015, SilverTowne Mint formed a joint venture with A-Mark Precious Metals to develop a series of stackable silver rounds. These rounds now expand to include the Buffalo Stackable Silver Round.
Inspired by the historic Buffalo Nickel from the United States Mint, these stackable silver rounds feature a grooved rim around both sides that allow the rounds to be stacked together and locked in place better with one another when piled up for storage.
James Earle Fraser was commissioned by the Taft Administration in 1912 to redesign the nations five-cent piece, replacing the previous design which had been in use since the mid-1890s. Fraser, who grew up on the plains, used his background for inspiration in designing the new nickel.
Fraser chose a bison for the obverse face of the coin, and a Native American chieftain for the reverse of the original nickel. His new design was used from 1913 to 1938. Today, it appears on the Gold American Buffalo coin from the US Mint, among other private mint offerings as well.
On the obverse of these 1 oz SilverTowne Buffalo Stackable Silver Rounds youll find the image of a Native American tribal member. Captured in right-profile relief, Fraser is said to have used the facial features of three different leaders of the early 20thcentury to create the image used on the Buffalo Nickel.
The reverse of the SilverTowne Buffalo Silver Round includes a depiction of Black Diamond. The bison that inspired Frasers design was a resident of the Central Park Zoo in New York City in the early 20thcentury, and is featured on the reverse of these rounds with all original engravings aside from the face value.
SilverTowne is a private minting facility and distributor in the United States. The company began a humble operation in rural Indiana as a coin shop in 1949, and today is one of the biggest private mints in the United States, refining customer bars, medallions, and rounds.
