The past 10 years has been very busy for the collectors of silver ingots. Since the market has picked up so much steam. It brings along the demand for a universal resource where everyone can access information pertaining to Engelhard and other major refiners.
www.allengelhard.com has been that resource. It is where you can find countless hours of documented varities in all the manufactured weight classes. Now that we are a decade into the documentation. A lot has come to light!! I am going to share a unique variety Engelhard that stands alone. Majority of Engelhard ingots share similar characteristics. It even goes as far as the US and Canadian manufacturing facilities sharing the same molds.
Below is an example of an Engelhard '6th Series' 5oz Silver Ingot.
☝️This is a top quality example that features origional patina along with a strong strike. This '6th Series' demonstrates a one of a kind mold size. It is smaller and has very rounded edges. The font is unique as well. The top of the '1' has a straight or 'horizontal' line. As opposed the the angled top line. The top of the '3' is rounded. As opposed to a straight top line 3. The stamp placement is also unique to only this example. Due to all the unique charactoristics. This ingot is believe to be the first 'All Canadian' Engelhard!!
☝️The two photos above show how significantly rounded the edges are. You will also notice a size difference.
☝️ Here is the more common mold size, font style, and stamp placement. Though this ingot demonstrates a 1. Prefix that places a lower mintage on it. This mold, font, and landscape is consistant with the majority of the Engelhard Canadian 5oz class ingots.
Most silver collectors would not recognize this bar for what it is. This is why I find it important to expose these rare ingots. The estimated recorded mintage according to www.allengelhard.com is less then 150. I spent a lot of time reading and comparing to figure this out. If someone only has to read this article to understand the subtle differences that make an ingot worth $850 vs $150. Then I have done my job sharing the PASSION.
