When money was actually worth something...
Old US coins (half dollars, quarters and dimes) were made up of 90% silver, that's right the precious metal. Not the junk they make coins out of now. Interestingly, many collectors now refer to these old coins as "junk silver" because they don't possess any numismatic value and are really just worth the spot price of silver in each coin... I love these old things... "Junk silver" makes up a good chunk of my stack, it's sort of the foundation.
I feel like these old coins have stories to tell, if only they could talk... Who knows where that 1937 dime has been, maybe it was some GI's lucky coin and it helped him stay focused through Iwo Jima... OR, maybe it did nothing more than sit in a bank vault for most of its life in circulation... No one will ever, but it's the mystery that counts...
