I've been talking a bit about silver and gold bullion lately and I just want to give a quick definition.
Bullion
Bullion is gold or silver in bulk before coining, or valued by weight. So this covers just about any bar or round that I have talked about in the past couple of weeks.
Numismatics
Numismatics is the study or collection of currency, including coins, tokens, and paper money. So a coin collector could be called a numismatist and this is where I find myself leaning as I learn more about US coinage. There are some really interesting coins and the fact that most older coins contain silver is a bonus!
It's not only the coin design that interests me but the lore and legend as well. Like the 1890 Carson City minted Morgan Dollar I showed yesterday. Just picturing Nevada in 1890 and a US mint pressing coins there really gets my imagination going.
The reason I mention this is to talk about an eBay auction going on right now that I find fascinating. It appears there is/was a building in the southern US that is being demolished

and while getting it ready the owner (or someone, it's not quite clear on eBay) found and opened a rather large safe that was full of mostly US coins.

I have no idea if this story is legit or not but this is what the ebay auctioneer says,
During the demolition of a 200+ year old pottery store an enormous safe was found (See photos). Most of the contents were junk, but the shop owner was an avid coin collector and hoarded away some of the best pieces that came into the shop, just as his father had done. Many of the coins are dusty and dirty, but I read online not to touch the coins in any way. Therefore, they will be listed exactly as found. Some of the coins were encased years ago, many not. A long-time collector volunteered his time to see that all coins are 100% Authentic guaranteed.
I can tell you that I got two coins yesterday and they were as advertised and I have two more showing up next week as well. The auction is still going on and I suggest you check it out just to see all the amazing examples of old US coinage.
Here a just a few of the coins that will sell tonight.
I'll take the seller at his word and in that case, this is a once in a lifetime find and I am sure enjoying watching it. Let me know if you check this out and what you think of it.
