I went to the LCS again this past weekend and I picked up some new weight for the stack. This time, it was something that I had gotten into my head the last time and couldn't stop thinking about... the wheat pennies.
The shop owner had a bucket of them and said that he would sell them at spot price for copper. That worked out to be around $0.03ish per penny, although he sold them to me by the pound. He dropped a few handfuls onto the scale and stopped when I told him to. I ended up getting approximately 250 pennies for around $8.00.
It wasn't a screaming deal, but I had considered getting into pouring and thought that copper would be a good way to practice. The only problem was I hadn't remembered how cool I thought the coins looked, so I decided when I got them that even if I stat pouring, these aren't getting melted. I put them in rolls and they're going to stay there for a while.
While I was looking through the coins to put them in rolls, I noticed one that had a back that looked different. I looked closer at it and discovered that he had an Indian Penny mixed in the bunch. I kept looking and found a friend for it. Here's a picture of them together. Sadly, the one that was less worn was a bit bent, but I'll hang onto them nonetheless.
That was one of my acquisitions from the weekend. Make sure to check back to see the others.
Thanks for stopping by!
