Day 12 of the 2018 Winter Olympics is in the books and we are back with another medal count update. There were several events that gave out medals on the 12th day of action. Norway’s medal domination continues as they are now up to 33 total medals including 13 Golds. Germany remains in second place at 24 total medals including 12 Golds. Canada is in third with 21 total medals and the Netherlands is in fourth with 16 as is the United States.
One of the stars of day 12 wasn’t even a Gold medal winner. American Lindsey Vonn likely completed her final Olympic race. She has had an incredible run on the slopes but her Bronze medal is going to be her last one. She has been at the top of the Women’s Downhill Ski racing for over a decade but at the age of 33, mother nature is taking its course. Vonn did have a quote though that is catching some attention from her fans, “I wish I could keep skiing.”
Another big star of yesterday was also a Bronze medal winner. Marit Bjoergen became the most decorated Winter Games Olympian of all time. She came in third place in the Women’s Ski Sprint. She has now won an incredible 14 medals in her career and has participated in 5 Games! The 37 year old may be far from retirement as she has hinted that she will be back in 4 more years.
Day 13 will be another opportunity for new stars and heros to be crowned. There will several medals handed out today and some bright new faces to reach the podium. We will be back later with another Olympic Medal Count Update and highlight some of the stars of Day 13.
