The College Football Bowl season is going strong as we get closer to the Final 4 College Football Playoff. Today we're going to think about a few reasons that NCAA Football Playoff should expand to 8 teams.
Going to 8 teams would:
1). Allow each of the power five conferences to be represented by their champion: In this writers opinion, every power five conference should be represented. It's hard to gauge the best conferences till AFTER the bowl games. Letting each conference to be represented takes away the guess work.
2). Expand the season one week longer: Adding four teams will only effect those for teams as far as scheduling and adding another game. The real winners are the fans of college football that get more of it. Everyone wins.
3). Give intermediate conferences a chance at a title: Almost every year there is a top ten team from a lesser conference that believes they should have a shot at the title. This would allow them to get embarrassed in front of everyone.
4). Not punish a good team for a good loss: Losing on the road to a top ten team shouldn't keep you out of the playoffs, but it does. Nobody with a close loss to a top team would be left out this way.
5) Encourage teams to schedule marquee match ups: The more Saturdays that are filled with prime time games the better. The beginning of 2017 had plenty of amazing games that shaped the landscape of the playoffs. Making it an 8 team playoff would keep those games rolling.
What do you think about the current 4 team playoff set up? Does it work for you or would you like to see it expand to 8 teams? Thank you for following
