The Cleveland Cavaliers traveled to Orlando to battle the Magic at Amway Arena. The Cavs have lost twelve of their last 18 games dating back to Christmas Day, largely due to their lack of defense. The Magic are among the bottom five teams in the NBA, mostly looking towards landing a high lottery pick next year.
Cleveland used their offense to fuel a twelve-point lead in the first quarter, scoring 43 points. They still continued to struggle with their defense, allowing 31 points, mostly trading baskets, instead of getting stops in the first frame. The Cavs continued their hot shooting from the field, building a 21-point midway through the second quarter before taking a 67-51 lead into the half largely due to the scoring of Lebron James’s 16 first half points.
The Magic made some adjustments at halftime and came out of the locker room outscoring Cleveland 27-10 in the first six minutes, taking their first lead of the game at 78-77. Cleveland scored on their first shot attempt of the fourth quarter and didn’t make another basket from the field until two minutes left. In that time frame, Orlando outscored Cleveland 19-1. The Magic held Cleveland to nine fourth-quarter points, sealing a 116-98 victory.
The Magic shot 53% from the field against the Cavs struggling defense. Jonathon Simmons scored a team-high 34 points, followed by Evan Fournier’s 19 points. Lebron James was the lone bright spot for the Cavs, scoring 25 points and adding 10 rebounds.
