The lineal light heavyweight champion will have his send off after this coming year, and he tells fans that these will be his best performances yet. After his dismantling of Volkan Oezdemir in under two rounds, Cormier made an appearance on 'MMASBN' with Ariel Helwani to make these assured announcements about his career.
Many wondered if last Saturday may be the last time we saw Cormier in the UFC octagon, but alas we found that Cormier is still hyped to get back in there and become motivated for a future contender. The fans also know that DC can't escape his past, and he would hop on a Jon Jones fight in an instant.
One must wonder if DC struggles to retire before Jon Jones becomes re-initiated into the UFC after his banned time is up. A warrior like Cormier would beckon to any call of a fight with his nemesis: he needs to redeem himself. DC's sternest test has become himself with the loss to Jones, but Jon only fought him as a cheater...
Cormier's ceiling was truly unlimited in his heavyweight era. He smashed all contenders and never struggled until his first UFC title fight...a title that found its way back to him. If karma is real, it was triggered by Cormier as he deserved to have a fair match with a contender who didn't break the rules.
Who knows if Jon Jones would have withstood the uppercuts Cormier knocked out Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva with if he wasn't on performance enhancing drugs. Cormier seemed to punish everyone else in the division with the same blows that Jon ate and fought through.
The family man, the anchor, the charismatic athlete you wanna cheer for: to me this is Daniel Cormier in a nutshell. As a fan and observer of the sport, I see D.C. as one of the best fighters of all time...and he is an Olympian who will go down in one of many Hall of Fames.
